Cat Quest

February 27th 2025: I went cat-spotting today, but in Bombay, that’s hardly a challenge. There are “two groups” of cats in the building, the security guard told me. My jet-lag insisted I focus on one this morning.

I’m still uncertain about how the mum cat feels about me - on the one hand, she scrunches up her eyes in bliss when I scratch her neck; on the other, her meows sound like subtle but firm reproaches. Her little ones are undecided too. They startle easily but they come out to watch me too.

I’ve spent my whole morning being entertained by five bendy little creatures. This one here is the most curious of them all. His sibling watches me with careful disdain (I have proof, I’ll share later.)

It always strikes me how a busy city like Bombay can slow down for little moments like this. It always feels incredible to be back.
